HARBOUR ON THE MINCIO NEAR MANTOVA

The ideal starting point for fishing trips, boat trips and other activities!

Our two tourist harbours are located in the small village of Governolo, in the municipality of Roncoferraro near Mantova, on the Mincio river, just before it flows into the Po river. They are very close to our camper park area.

The Po river "Il Grande Fiume", with its enormous abundance of fish, is the largest river in Italy and is a well-known and extremely popular fishing water. Po and Mincio are the ideal rivers to catch the fish of a lifetime.

The gigant of these rivers is the catfish, but you can also fish for carp, pike-perch and many other species of fish. Due to the enormous food supply in the waters, the fish here reach extraordinary sizes.

The main harbour
Porto Turistico Governolo

The pier of the main harbour is located just below the river lock of Governolo. The ideal location allows boating and fishing trips on the Mincio and Po rivers.

The confluence of the Mincio into the Po can be reached in just a few minutes. Crane, boat moorings and car parking spaces are available.

The upper harbour of Governolo – a quiet mooring on the Mincio near Mantua

Above the Governolo lock, close to the main harbour, lies a small, quiet and picturesque harbour on the river Mincio. From here the waterway leads upstream to the three lakes of Mantua – a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.

Facilities
A boat ramp allows for easy launching and hauling out of boats, and boat moorings are also available.

Lotus flower bloom: July–August
Every year between July and August, wide fields of lotus flowers bloom along the Mincio – one of the most spectacular natural sights in Lombardy, and a popular destination for boat trips and photographers.

Stable water level all year round
Thanks to the lock, the water level at the upper harbour of Governolo remains stable throughout the year. Even during severe drought periods, the upper stretch of the Mincio has always remained navigable.

Direct connection to the Po
From the harbour of Governolo, boats have a direct waterway connection to the river Po: via the Valdaro lock, the Canalbianco (Tartaro) canal, and the San Leone lock below Governolo. This makes the harbour an ideal starting point for boat trips exploring both the Mincio/Mantua and the Po — two of Northern Italy's most important waterways, accessible from a single mooring.
